Abia traditional rulers’ chairman urges Otti to construct road in Ihechiowa
Chairman, Abia State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Eze Linus Mbah, has appealed to Gov. Alex Otti to consider the construction of a ring road in Ihechiowa community, Arochukwu Local Government Area.
Mbah, who is the Eze Udo 1 of Ata Igbo-Ukwu Umuzomgbo Autonomous Community, made the appeal at the Ata Igbo-Ukwu New Yam Festival on Saturday.
He said that the construction, particularly, the Umuchiakuma-Amafia Achara-Okpo road, would resuscitate the people’s lives and turn things around in the community.
The chairman lauded the governor for his current policies and reforms, especially, the increase of Traditional Rulers’ stipend from three per cent to the constitutional five per cent.
He also commended him for defraying of arrears of salaries and pensions of the people of the state and urged him to continue.
“The launching of “Operation Crush” for optimal security in Abia, the construction of various road networks in Aba and Umuahia in spite of rainfalls, renovation and equipment of three senatorial hospitals, all these within 85 days are appreciated,” he said.
Mbah equally thanked the Senator representing Abia North, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, for the construction of Atani Ihechiowa ring road, Obinto-Uburu Arochukwu road as well as the ongoing construction of Umuzomgbo – Okpo road.
According to him, we pray he will complete them in no distance time to enable our people have access road, to convey our agricultural produce.
Earlier in his welcome remark, Chairman of the occasion, Most Rev. Ademe Eke, extolled the sterling qualities Mbah, while describing him as a great achiever who had touched so many lives positively.
He congratulated the traditional ruler on the celebration of his new yam festival, while urging others, especially the youths, to emulate him for his kindness and devotion to God.
The festival featured blessing of new yam, competition by different cultural troupes and other side attractions. (NAN)
