Umunna(Abia), May 7, 2024(NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to the various Local Government Area (LGAs) in Abia to upgrade the corps members lodges across the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, made the appeal at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende LGA, Abia on Tuesday.
She also urged the LGAs to build additional lodges, if possible, to accommodate the ever increasing number of youth corps members in the state.
Adama expressed gratitude to Gov. Alex Otti of Abia for his numerous supports and warm assurances to NYSC and used the opportunity to remind him of his promises to the scheme.
The coordinator urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme and put into practice the good things they had learnt in camp.
“In addition, I urge you to take your post-camp skills acquisition training very seriously to enable you perfect the skills you learnt during your in-camp hands on training,” she said.
Also, Gov. Alex Otti urged the corps members to translate the trainings, knowledge and skills they had acquired during the orientation into qualitative service to their host communities and places of primary assignment.
Otti, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Mr Nwaobilor Ananaba, re-affirmed his administration’s determination to reward hard work and excellence.
“It is on this note that I wish to reiterate our resolve to continue to ensure that those of you who will excel during the service year will be adequately rewarded with the State Honours Awards.
“In addition, we shall continue to assist and support the NYSC in the state to ensure that it performs her responsibilities creditably without hindrance,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1564 corps members, comprising 811 males and 753 females, participated in the three weeks orientation course.(NAN)
