A non-governmental organisation, Awareness Forum for Abia Development and Economic Advancement (AFA) has urged Abia Government to convert the industrial, municipal and domestic waste in the state to wealth.
The State Coordinator of AFA, Mr Francis Ikenga, who made the call while briefing newsmen on Thursday in Umuahia, said that the waste could be recycled or converted to wealth through creative waste management.
He commended the governor for ensuring that the mountain of refuse that littered Aba and Umuahia disappeared on his assumption of office, and had remained so till date.
Ikenga said that the waste could be converted to energy for power generation and job creation.
He explained that AFA is an alliance of professionals and elites, set up to help enthrone and sustain visionary, people-oriented, effective and efficient political leadership.in the state.
The theme of the media briefing is “Celebrating 366 Days of Transformative Governance in Abia State: The Achievements of His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti.”
Ikenga said that Otti’s leadership had in the past one year, driven unprecedented positive change, growth and development across various sectors, thus setting the state on a new path to posterity.
“Governor Otti has spearheaded major road construction projects, significantly improving transportation infrastructure throughout the state.
“These developments have not only enhanced connectivity but have also formed the building blocks and springboard for the development and economic advancement of Abia,” Ikenga, a chattered account, said.
He also hailed Otti for his non-discriminatory policy by abolishing ‘State of Origin’ dichotomy in the state.
According to him, under Otti’s leadership, indigenes and non-indigenes resident in the state are treated equally.
“That’s why today, and for the first time, we have a Permanent Secretary in Abia Civil Service, who does not come from any state in the South-East, but comes from Edo,” he said.
The coordinator also spoke about Otti’s achievements of in education, health care, security, economy and others sectors. (NAN)
