Umunna(Abia) July 2, 2024(NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended Gov. Alex Otti of Abia for directing the immediate rehabilitation of facilities in the camp and state secretariat.
The State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs Gladys Adama, gave the commendation on Tuesday at the formal opening of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps Members deployed to Abia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
The coordinator confirmed that several engineers had already been deployed by the governor to ascertain the level of dilapidation and cost.
According to her, in no distant time, work will start in the camp which will bring a breath of fresh air to NYSC in Abia.
She also acknowledged the efforts of the governor in ensuring the security of lives and property of corps members, saying it had created a very conducive environment for them to serve.
Adama charged the corps members to attend all camp activities as well as study carefully all publications that would be given to them for a better understanding of their roles during the service year.
She said that 1667 corps members, comprising 691 males and 976 females were registered for the three-week orientation course.
Declaring the orientation exercise open, the governor commended NYSC management for the concerted efforts in making the scheme more relevant and attractive to the youths.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Ikechukwu Emetu, urged the corps members to pay undivided attention to the skills acquisition and entrepreneurial programme that would be introduced to them during the orientation course.
“Already, I have directed the rehabilitation of this orientation camp and other critical facilities in the state.
“Very soon construction work will start,” Otti said.
NAN reports that the oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Abia, Justice Lilian Abai, represented by Justice Collington Okoroafor.(NAN)
