The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has expressed optimism that the promised rehabilitation work and provision of critical facilities in its Abia camp, by the state government, would soon materialise.
State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, made this statement during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
Adama expressed gratitude to Gov. Alex Otti for his support and called for more efforts to make the camp even better.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor had assured the scheme of rehabilitating the camp and facilities, which have suffered years of neglect.
As part of that effort, the governor has deployed engineers to assess the level of dilapidation and estimate the costs.
The state coordinator noted that 2,000 corps members, comprising 887 males and 1,113 females, were registered for the three-week orientation exercise.
She assured the governor of the scheme’s commitment to assist the state, particularly in the areas of healthcare, education, agriculture and rural infrastructure.
Gov. Otti, represented by Chief Cyril Nwaigwe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, stated that his administration would create one of the best orientation camps in the nation.
He announced plans to increase allowances for corps members, especially those in public schools, and urged them to contribute to building a new Abia.
