The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has appealed to the Abia State Government to urgently commence payment of monthly stipend to all corps members deployed to the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, made the call on Tuesday at the closing ceremony cum terminal parade of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members in Abia.
The low-key ceremony was presided over by the coordinator at the NYSC Permanent Orientation, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
Adama said that the gesture would help to boost the morale of corps members in the state.
She expressed profound gratitude to Gov. Alex Otti, for his unwavering support to the NYSC scheme in the state.
The coordinator congratulated the corps members on the successful conclusion of their their weeks orientation course, while describing it as a period of learning, bonding and personal growth.
She urged them to take their posting to their Places of Primary Assignment in good fate and make impact in the lives of the people of the state.
Adama said: “However, as you go into the hinterlands of Abia, I charge you to love and co-exist harmoniously with members of your host communities.
“As much as possible, make positive impacts by leaving the people better than you met them.
“I also urge you to get integrated into the communities, learning their language and culture, and knowing their norms; however avoid their local politics.”
The coordinator advised the corps members to avoid embarking on frivolous journeys, stressing that many had lost their lives through such incidents.
“If there is any compelling need to travel, you must get the necessary approvals, using the right NYSC channel of communication,” she said.(NAN)
