The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members deployed to Abia, to contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, said this during the closing ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II, Corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
Adama, who presided over the low-key ceremony, advised the corps members to leave lasting legacies while serving in the state.
She urged them to love and co-exist harmoniously with members of their host communities, learning their language and culture, but warned against meddling with their local politics.
Adama, the Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, reminded the corps members that their security and welfare was the scheme’s top priority.
The coordinator enjoined them to take very seriously the post-camp training to perfect the skills they learnt during the in-camp hands on training.
She thanked Gov. Alex Otti for the on-going construction of internal road network of the camp, donation of a brand new 110 kVA power generator, installation of a new electric transformer and re-connection of the camp to the national grid among others.
She however, reminded corps employers and the various local government chairmen to take the welfare and security of corps members seriously.
Adama further requested them to provide the corps members with befitting lodges, engage them adequately in their work places and make provision in the budget for their welfare. (NAN)
