The Abia State Government has expressed its commitment to collaborate with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike(MOUAU) on agribusiness development and youth empowerment.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, made this known
during a fact-finding mission to the Agribusiness Incubation Centre of the university.
He said the visit was to inspect the training facilities and assess the university’s readiness and capacity to collaborate with the ministry.
The commissioner said that the goal was for the university to conduct an intensive training exercise for Abia youths in various agricultural components.
He said that areas of focus include: fish production, processing and utilisation , open field farming, greenhouse and screen house technologies.
Others are food processing and value addition, as well as livestock production and the rest.
He said that the training would also equip youths with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in agriculture, promote entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in agriculture.
Responding, the Director, MOUAU Agribusiness Incubation Centre, Dr Philip Ntoh, assured of the university’s readiness to conduct a top-notch training exercise, leveraging on the relevant manpower at its disposal.
