The campaign organisation of Abia APC governorship aspirant, Chief Eric Opah, has dismissed a publication circulating online questioning his eligibility.
It described it as “panic-driven propaganda” from a faceless group afraid of defeat in Thursday’s primary.
In a statement signed by the Director General of the campaign, Chief Charles Ogbonna, the organisation said the publication was aimed at misleading supporters and discouraging turnout for the primary election scheduled for Thursday, May 21.
“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the fiction and propaganda being circulated by this faceless group working for those intimidated by the towering political stature of Chief Eric Opah.
“However, for the sake of the unsuspecting and gullible public, it has become necessary to lay the facts bare,” the statement read.
According to the campaign, the APC National Working Committee had cleared all three governorship aspirants from Abia.
It added that membership obtained via the party’s e-registration portal remained a valid qualification for contesting elective positions.
The statement further cited a pre-primary stakeholders’ meeting held at the new Abia APC Secretariat, where the State Working Committee reported that all governorship and House of Representatives aspirants were successfully cleared.
“Only one aspirant for the State House of Assembly failed the screening process.
“It is therefore ridiculous that fear of defeat could drive some individuals into manufacturing propaganda aimed at deceiving the teeming supporters of Chief Opah,” Ogbonna stated.
The campaign urged members of the Abia APC to disregard the claims, insisting that “Chief Eric Opah is still very much in the race” and remains the strongest aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket.
