“Secure Our Land, Free Our Son”: Obi Aguocha Urges Ndigbo to Unite Against Insecurity, Push for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has called on Ndigbo to close ranks and take collective action to secure their communities, warning that criminality is creeping deeper into the South-East.
Speaking during a security meeting with traditional rulers from Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South on Monday, Aguocha said the region must act decisively now to avoid the kind of unchecked insecurity plaguing other parts of the country.
His alarm was triggered by recent kidnappings of indigenes from Ohuhu and other communities within his constituency. “Some victims are still missing. We cannot afford to wait until this becomes a daily reality,” he told the royal fathers.

The lawmaker urged the traditional institution to mobilize communities, strengthen local vigilante structures, and speak with one voice against all forms of criminality. He stressed that security must become a collective responsibility, not just a government affair.
“Ndigbo must rise to protect our land, our farms, our roads, and our people. If we do not unite for self-defence now, insecurity will overwhelm us as it has in other regions,” Aguocha warned.
The meeting also addressed the prolonged detention of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Aguocha recounted his intervention during court proceedings, where he advocated for a less punitive charge against Kanu instead of the initial harsh counts pressed by the Federal Government.
He disclosed that following Kanu’s latest appeal, the Federal Government filed a cross-appeal, asking the court to set aside an earlier judgment it claims was delivered “in error” by the previous presiding judge.
According to the lawmaker, government lawyers are insisting that the alleged error must be corrected before Kanu’s appeal can be properly heard.

“On Nnamdi Kanu, I have been consistent. I will continue to fight for his release and for the protection of his fundamental rights, including the right to life.
“This matter requires peace and dialogue, not endless litigation,” he said.
Aguocha called on traditional rulers across the South-East to harmonize their voices and push for a political solution.
“Our royal fathers carry moral authority. When you speak with one voice, Abuja listens. The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is key to dousing tension and restoring peace in our region,” he added.
The lawmaker assured constituents of continued legislative advocacy for security funding and justice, pledging to keep the Kanu case on the front burner until resolved.
