2026 Igbo Day: Moghalu urges Ndigbo to translate Charter into action
Former CBN Deputy Governor, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has urged Ndigbo to move beyond resolutions and translate the Igbo Charter into implementation, measurable results and collective action.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Global Publicity Secretary
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Moghalu gave the charge while delivering keynote virtually at 2026 Igbo Day lecture in Umuahia.
The lecture, entitled “The Igbo Charter and Development of Ala Igbo,” was organised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and hosted by Abia Government.

The event opened the 2026 Igbo Day commemoration and was held with a lecture and dinner.
It was chaired by elder statesman, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, who guided the intellectual discourse.
Moghalu chaired the committee that produced the Igbo Charter of Strategic Engagement for National Development.
He identified preservation of Igbo language as a critical area requiring urgent attention.
He also listed digital economy, diaspora engagement, security, human-capital development and productive investment as priorities.

Moghalu stressed that the Charter should remain above partisan politics and serve as practical framework for Ala Igbo.
He said the Charter must become a living document driving development, not just a ceremonial declaration.
The keynote was followed by a panel discussion examining pathways for implementing the Charter.
Panelists included Dr. Friday Ohuche, Princess Gloria Akobundu, Prof. Ken Ife and Dr. Joe Abah.
Others were Rt. Hon. Ike Ibe, Ihunwo Obi Wali and Dr. Nkem James.
Welcoming participants, Ohanaeze President-General, Sen.John Azuta-Mbata, said the Charter was designed to harness Ndigbo’s enormous resources.
He said it would leverage human, intellectual and entrepreneurial potential for collective development of Ala Igbo.
Host Governor, Dr. Alex Otti said Abia was transitioning from traditional commerce to manufacturing, technology and digital enterprise.
He urged Ndigbo to embrace opportunities presented by the digital economy for competitiveness.

Dignitaries present included former Gov. Emeka Sibeudu, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe and Deputy Governor of Abia, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.
Others were Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Prof. Uchefula Chukwueze(SAN), Bishop Athan Azubuike and Prof. Ossy Nwebo.
Also present were Prof. Uche Azikiwe, Iyom Josephine Anenih, traditional rulers, National Assembly members and business leaders.
Representatives of Ndigbo from Nigeria and diaspora, academics and captains of industry also attended.
The lecture set the intellectual tone for 2026 Igbo Day, with a common call for unity and strategic organisation.
