A cleric with the Deeper Life Ministry, Umuahia, Igbeaku Orji, has charged media professionals in the country to discharge their constitutional responsibility to society with integrity and fear of God.
Igbeaku gave the charge in Umuahia during a prayer session, organised by the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia Council, to formally usher in 2026.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the cleric spoke on the theme: “Appreciating God for past faithfulness and trusting Him for future blessings”.
He said the fear of God is essential in ensuring that journalists uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in their day-to-day activities.
Orji, who is also a media practitioner, therefore, charged them to always let their lives reflect on their job by “living above board”.
Reflecting on Psalm 103, the cleric urged journalists to have a personal and functional relationship with God, in order to succeed in their career.
He said: “The root of whatever you have achieved in life is God and He becomes a father to you, when you appreciate Him more.
“It’s good to have a personal relationship with God, it’s not about church, denomination or position you occupy.
“You should always speak blessings to your children and family because you are the gateway to your family.
“But if you fail, the enemy – the devil – will come in and cause serious harm in the family.”
In a brief speech, the Chairman of the chapel, Mr Steve Oko, emphasised the need for journalists to begin the year with thanksgiving and prayer to God for good health and greater accomplishments.
Oko also admonished journalists to keep away from sin and be positive that God will richly bless them through their career.
“Let us know that as journalists, we should be positive about our future and work as evangelists and God’s instrument.
“As journalists, we must uphold good values, and insist on doing the right thing always,” he said.
