The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Benjamin Kalu, says the task of delivering Abia to President Bola Tinubu in 2027, is bigger than his personal political ambitions.
Kalu said this in a statement on Sunday in Umuahia.
He said this during his visit to the residence of Mr Uchenna Jnr. Erondu, lawmaker representing Obingwa West Constituency in Abia House of Assembly.
He urged everyone to join hands to achieve the goal for the country’s continued progress and growth.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, lauded Tinubu’s policies and agenda, saying they had positively impacted lives.
Kalu, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the President had shown courage in decision-making.
He said: “We must deliver the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, come 2027.
“That task of delivering the President here in my area, is bigger than my personal political ambition.
“And that is the truth, because he has been good to me like a father and leader and I believe in his policies and agenda.
“He is bold to take decisions and those decisions, though criticised by the public are serving the public well today.”
Kalu admitted that Nigeria was not yet where it ought to be, “but the point remains that we are not where we started.”
Meanwhile, Kalu has called on Erondu to join them in APC and support Tinubu’s re-election bid come 2027.
Kalu said the essence of his visit was to congratulate Erondu on his successful constituency empowerment programme in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state recently.
He said the lawmaker’s time in the Peoples Democratic Party had expired, saying that it was time for him to join the ruling party and contribute to its growth and development.
He emphasised that APC had a bigger room for everyone and urged the lawmaker to bring his team to join the party.
Kalu continued: “I want you to join us in the Renewed Hope Partners.
“They are those partnering with Mr President to project him from the grassroot to the national level.
“When we harvest young minds like you who are energetic and progressive, we can penetrate deeper into the grassroots.
“They said there is no APC in Abia State, but when our results came in for membership, it was huge.”
In his response, Erondu assured the deputy speaker of delivering the president in Abia, especially in Abia South Senatorial District.
On his planned defection to the APC, the lawmaker promised to consult widely with his constituents and supporters, before making a decision.
