An All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial aspirant for Abia North, Dr Philips Nto, has appealed to former Abia Governor and Senator representing the zone, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, to cede the seat to him in the spirit of inclusiveness and generational transition.
Nto made the appeal in Igbere, the hometown of the former governor, during his ongoing consultation visits ahead of the APC senatorial primary.
The former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning urged Kalu to emulate his Sokoto State counterpart, Sen. Aminu Tambuwal, who recently ceded the senatorial ticket to a state commissioner.
According to Nto, as an elder statesman, Kalu should consider retiring from active politics to create space for younger politicians to grow.
“Please help me plead with your son, His Excellency, to offer me this opportunity to represent the good people of Abia North. I will always consult him as our father,” Nto told the crowd.
A former Provost of Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu, Nto reiterated his commitment to making laws that would have a positive impact on the people.
He also pledged to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor and create employment opportunities for youths.
While canvassing support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, Nto described the APC as the vehicle through which Nigeria can grow its economy and stabilise the political space.
In their responses, a retired Chief Judge of Abia Justice S.N. Imo; former Chairman of Bende LGA, Mr Emmanuel Onwuchekwa and others all commended Nto for his courage in seeking to represent Abia North in the Senate in 2027.
They promised to convey his message to Kalu and appeal for his support.
Imo vouched for Nto’s integrity, describing him as “a fellow ambassador of the Kingdom who will always stand on the side of truth.”
