Abia 2027 : NDC’s Iwenjiora promises quality representation, accountability for Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi
Mrs Evangeline Iwenjiora, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Abia, has declared her readiness to begin grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She vowed to challenge political heavyweights and deliver quality representation and accountability to the people.
Speaking during a thanksgiving meeting with party members at her residence in Leru, Umunneochi LGA on Monday, Iwenjiora said the gathering was to appreciate members for their support during the party primaries.
The primaries held on May 29, where she emerged as the standard bearer.
“My name is Eva, I’m ever ready. We are ready to hit the streets. We are ready to preach the gospel of NDC.
“We are ready to take the good democracy that His Excellency, Peter Obi, has visualised for Nigerians to every household in the South East, in Abia, in every local government and other parts of the country,” she said.
Iwenjiora, who hails from Leru in Umunneochi LGA, identified lack of true representation as the missing gap in the constituency.
“I will deliver quality representation, accountability, accessibility and give the people what they’ve been asking for all these years.
“I’m not here just for the party, I’m here for the people, to serve the people. Like our slogan, NDC – ‘service to the people’,” she added.
The candidate, known for her grassroots empowerment programmes, said she has consistently supported women, youths, widows and elders, and will do more if elected.
On the contest against opponents, Iwenjiora said the outcome lies with God and the people.
“Power is in the hands of God. He gives power to whom He chooses to. I know this is God’s mandate. He will perfect what He has started already.
“The people from other parties, we are all fighting for the same thing, but let the best win,” she said.
On women in politics, she said she fought against male aspirants to clinch the ticket and will create space for more women in governance.
“Even to get the ticket wasn’t easy. I fought against a lot of men, clinched the ticket, and getting there, we are going to make provision for other women to join us,” she said.
Iwenjiora threw her weight behind NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as the leader needed to transform Nigeria’s economy.
“This is not just about my constituency, it’s also about electing a president that will transform Nigeria.
“The people’s mind, His Excellency, Peter Obi – Okute ndi Igbo, is a celestial being,” she said.
NDC Chairman for Umunneochi LGA, Mr Ikechukwu Chikadibia, said the party chose Iwenjiora for her competence and track record.
He revealed that she single-handedly paid WAEC and NECO fees for a good number of students in the constituency in 2026 without media publicity.
“When you talk about big weights, she’s the bigger fish among them, unannounced. She has the capacity to match them in all circles,” Chikadibia said.
Also, the NDC Chairman for Isuikwuato LGA, Mr Bright Oku, expressed confidence that the party will win the seat in 2027.
According to him, we have the capacity to win the 2027 general election.
“We decided to choose her out of about 10 aspirants because we believe she has capacity.
“I have not seen any other candidates apart from Eva. Eva will win the election,” he said.
The Chairman, Umunneochi Council of President -Generals, Mr Peters Ogbukwe, described Iwenjiora as a “national brand” and the first candidate to seek the blessing of all President-Generals in the constituency.
“She is the first to seek our permission, our blessing and our cooperation. That is why all the President-Generals have really given her our blessing,” Ogbukwe, also the outgoing President-General of Umuchieze, said.
Party leaders said full campaign activities will commence in August.
