The Abia chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called on residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said the move is crucial to strengthening Igbo representation in governance.
The call was made on Wednesday by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Abia chapter, Dr Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, during a PVC sensitisation and mobilisation rally held at the Aba Town Hall in Aba South LGA.
Organised by the 17 local government chairmen of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Abia State, the rally aimed to mobilise Abia residents to participate in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission voter registration exercise.
Okwuonu stressed that the registration was the final opportunity for eligible voters to obtain their PVCs before the 2027 polls.
He said Igbo people, with their numerical strength across the country, could make a decisive impact if they turned out en masse.
“If Igbo come out en masse to embrace this call, we will definitely make a bold statement on where we ought to be in Nigeria,” he said.
The Ohanaeze president commended the 17 LGA chairmen for organising the rally and noted that obtaining PVCs would enable residents to vote for Gov. Alex Otti and other Igbo sons and daughters performing well in public office.
Speaking earlier, Chief Uche Wogu, Aba South Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Coordinator of the Body of LGA Chairmen in Abia, said the chapter decided to join forces with the state leadership to sensitise residents across the 17 LGAs ahead of the elections.
Speaking on behalf of other chairmen, Wogu, Chief Christian Okeri of Isiala Ngwa South, and Chief Omoni Roland of Ukwa East, all praised Otti’s performance and urged residents to secure their PVCs to support him and other performing Igbo leaders.
The rally drew a large crowd in Aba, with attendees pledging to register for their PVCs and commending Ohanaeze Ndigbo Abia chapter for the initiative.
